The Body Remembers: How Trauma Lives in Our Cells (and How to Release It)

Trauma isn’t just in your mind. It lives in your body. In your muscles, your fascia, your nervous system. That’s why you can know you’re safe — and still feel anxious, tight, or frozen.
The Science of Stored Trauma
When you go through a traumatic experience, your body reacts with fight, flight, or freeze. If that energy isn’t released, it gets stuck.
Muscles hold tension.
The amygdala stays on high alert.
The vagus nerve struggles to regulate safety.
This is why trauma survivors often feel chronic pain, digestive issues, or unexplained fatigue.
Somatic Healing: Letting the Body Speak
Talk therapy is powerful, but the body also needs to release what it’s holding. Healing happens when you give the body permission to express.
Methods:
Breathwork (releasing through the exhale).
Somatic movement or shaking.
Gentle yoga or stretching.
Trauma-informed bodywork.
The Spiritual Layer
Energetically, trauma creates blocks in the chakras. A tight chest = heart chakra wounds. A tense jaw = throat chakra suppression. When you release trauma physically, energy flows again. ✨ This is why in The Rebirth Within I combine practices for the nervous system with meditations that free the energy body — because true healing is both physical and spiritual.
