Destructive Norms.

Updated: Oct 3, 2024

In our contemporary world, the external often takes precedence over the internal.

The emphasis on outward appearances has led many of us to construct elaborate facades, projecting an illusion of well-being and prosperity to the external world.

The pursuit of a wealthy image, adorned with branded luxury items, has become a prevalent norm, overshadowing the importance of genuine self-awareness and inner fulfillment.

The societal pressure to conform to external standards, particularly in terms of physical appearance, is undeniable.

Body image and external aesthetics often become focal points due to the weight of others' opinions. While promoting physical fitness for health is commendable, the pursuit of an artificially crafted beauty standard can lead individuals into financial strain and debt.

In this pursuit of external validation, we seem to have lost touch with the essence of true beauty and what really matters. The contemporary definition of attractiveness is predominantly linked to physical appearance, neglecting the significance of intellect, character, and expressions of love in shaping our perception of "sexy."

It's evident that a detrimental norm has evolved over the years, perpetuating a cycle of self-judgment and societal expectations. It's crucial for us to step back, question these norms, and collectively redefine our values.

The call is for a new norm—one that prioritizes the significance of our internal well-being over external perceptions.

Breaking free from the pursuit of likes and validations from those who hold little significance in our lives is a pivotal step. Many find themselves seeking approval from individuals dedicated to passing judgment rather than fostering positive connections.

It's essential to recognize the uniqueness of each individual, understanding that they are perfectly created just as they are, in the image of a higher power.

In essence, it's time to challenge the prevailing norms, redirect our focus inward, and become architects of a new paradigm—one where our internal richness takes precedence over external appearances, and where self-love triumphs over the need for external validation.
