Reality of our diet

Updated: Oct 14, 2023

The topic of veganism holds a special place in my heart. I made the transition to a vegan lifestyle a few years ago and haven't once looked back, nor have I ever missed consuming animal-based products. During this journey, I have developed immense respect and love for all beings on this planet. My commitment to spreading awareness about the harmful practices within the agriculture industry has only grown as I've delved deeper into the truth about how animals are treated. Understanding the extent of the damage caused by consuming animals that suffer so terribly, both to the animals and to us, has been a driving force for me. The agriculture industry is a primary, if not the primary, contributor to global warming. It's a shocking 86 times more destructive in terms of pollution than our transportation systems. Many health organizations are aware of this fact but choose not to share it with the public, often due to financial interests. The environmental impacts of the agriculture industry are astounding. It takes a staggering 10,000 liters of water to produce just 450 grams of beef, and 250 liters of water to create a 100-gram burger. A shocking 30% of the world's water consumption goes to agriculture. Furthermore, these industries occupy a significant 45% of Earth's lands and are responsible for 91% of Amazon rainforest destruction in Brazil. The Amazon rainforest plays a critical role as the lungs of our planet, absorbing carbon dioxide and releasing oxygen. The agriculture industry also contributes to habitat destruction and the creation of dead zones in our oceans. More than half of the antibiotics in the world are used by these industries, with many of them lacking proper waste treatment and disposing of waste directly into our oceans. Choosing grass-fed or free-range products doesn't significantly improve the situation. The extended growth periods for these animals translate to higher water consumption, more food, and greater waste, resulting in a substantial carbon footprint. Discussions about these topics often provoke defensive responses, with some people citing historical hunting practices as a justification for their choices. However, the food industry today is vastly different from what it once was. It's essential for us to become more conscious of what we consume and why we consume it, questioning the teachings we've received, as many of these have been driven by profitable industries. Individuals have the power to change the course of our future, benefiting all beings on Earth. Humans have rights, just as animals do. I am troubled by the fact that some people go hungry while we continue to consume animal-based products. Plant-based foods are the answer to addressing world issues on multiple fronts, from food scarcity to environmental concerns. It requires significantly less land to produce plant-based food, making it a more efficient and sustainable choice.

I believe that a lack of knowledge and awareness is what hinders progress in this direction. We can choose to live for a purpose or die for nothing. Each of us can decide whether to be part of the problem or part of the solution. The power to choose lies within you. You determine your battles. You pick your battles...
